Canada Work Visa Alert: OWP Pilot is now extended till 31 July

Immigrants must take note of the latest Canada Work Visa Alert. The Open Work Permit Pilot is being extended by the Federal Government of Canada till 31 July. The OWP Pilot is for sponsored common-law partners and spouses in Canada. These are under the process of applying for PR Visa through the Common-Law Partner or Spouse in Canada Class.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said that the OWP Pilot was scheduled to expire on 31 January. It has now been extended till 31 July added IRCC, as quoted by the CIC News. This program has been extended for the fourth time after it was launched in 2014.

The Pilot permits eligible common-law-partners and spouses residing in Canada to apply for an OWP. This is under the Common-Law Partner or Spouse in Canada Class being sponsored by Canada PR holders or citizens.

An OWP is not bound by any specific employer or job. The employment is however restricted in healthcare and childcare. It is only for those who have received the necessary medical clearance.

The applicants of Canada Work Visa under the OWP must possess a valid provisional resident status. This is either as a worker, student or a visitor. They must also be residing at the same address as their sponsor.

IRCC said that we recognize that the integration outcomes for families in Canada are improved when they can work while living together. Extending the OWP ensures that applicants can work and provide for their families and contribute to the economy of Canada. This is while waiting for their PR applications to be processed, added IRCC.

Individuals who apply under the OWP Pilot can submit the application for Canada Work Visa along with the application for sponsorship. This is along with the application for Canada PR.
