Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship in Canada Ahmed Hussen has assured that Canada will accept a minimum of 300,000 fresh overseas immigrants every year. In the period of July 2015-16, Canada accepted a record number of 320, 932 immigrants, which was a historic high.
The new base of 300,000 has now been designated as the minimum threshold for annual intake of immigrants to Canada. The Government of Canada for its immigration levels plan for 2017 has increased the percentage of immigrants of the economic category within the threshold of 300,000 by 22% while compared to 2016, as quoted by the CIC News.
The Minster said that Canada will not accept anything less than 300,000 new immigrants for 2017-18 fiscal year. The increase in the percentage of the economic category of overseas immigrants is an evidence of the belief of the Canadian government that immigration is the key ingredient of the success of the nation’s economy, elaborated Ahmed Hussen.
Addressing a conference the Canadian Immigration Minister once again affirmed the commitment of his department accept new overseas immigrants and ensure a smoother transition of Canada PR holders to Canadian Citizenship. He, in fact, said that Canada would welcome if all the permanent residents in Canada accept the nation’s citizenship.
Ahmed Hussen also pointed out to several initiatives of his department to ensure that there is a better economic integration of overseas immigrants and the joining up of their families in Canada. These include the changes made effective to the Express entry system, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Project and the Global Skills Strategy. The Express entry draws that have been held so far in 2017 have seen record high number of ITAs being issued to the applicants.
