In the early September, a top politician of Canada’s governing party, met members of the Hispanic immigrant community in Los Angeles, especially those who fear being deported.
Newsweek quotes The Wall Street Journal as reporting on 27 September that Pablo Rodriguez, a Liberal Member of Parliament in Quebec, told its members that it should not be their first reaction to pack their bags and head to Canada.
Rodriguez said that they should understand laws of Canada before they take any hasty decisions. Other officials of Canada also have reportedly warned people that they might not stand a chance of legally entering their country.
Ahmed Hussen, Canadian minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship, said in an interview in early September, that although they were steady in their commitment to offering asylum to people escaping from persecution, terror or war, there is a lot of misleading information in those communities. He said that losing or not possessing status in the US is not adequate for claiming asylum in Canada.
