Canada needs to enhance the immigrant job participation levels. One area is employers continuing to report challenges for navigating through the immigration system. It must be identified as to how to make it easy for them. One way to do this can be launching a program ‘trusted employer’ to quicken the process of selection. This is already present on the smaller scale through Global Talent Stream and Atlantic Immigration Program.
Another way to enhance immigrant job participation levels is to give fair chance to the immigrants. It is quite comprehensible that there may be some hesitation in the hiring of immigrants. But it is very crucial to assist them to appreciate that immigrants are motivated and skilled. They can offer a competitive edge to the employers, as quoted by the CIC News.
The actual number of immigrants that arrive in Canada is not as important as the core issue: what is done with them with respect to employability. More focus must be placed on enhancing immigrant job participation levels. This will increase the output inflow and offer monetary benefits to Canadians and immigrants equally.
The relationship between the growth of economy and immigration is not as simple as more numbers mean enhanced output. It is more crucial to ensure that the immigrants are absorbed and integrate successfully into the labor market in Canada.
It was found in 2016 in a study that migrants lose around 12.7 billion dollars in wages annually owing to barriers to employment. This challenge must be addressed to ensure enhanced outcomes for the economy and the immigrants.
Canada has already taken positive steps in this direction. One example is the dynamic system of application management through the Express entry. This facilitates employers to hire overseas immigrants and bring them to Canada within 6 months.
