Canada must accept 415, 000 immigrants annually by 2030 as per the latest report of Conference Board of Canada. It has asked for increasing the annual immigration rates of Canada. This will help to spur the economy and offset the aging population, adds CBC.
Accepting 1% extra immigrants annually of the total population by 2030 will assist to cope up with diverse challenges. It will also contribute to the growth of the economy, adds the report of Conference Board of Canada.
The increase of 1% will represent 415, 000 immigrants annually for Canada. Its population will reach 42 million by 2030, as quoted by the CIC News.
CBC National Immigration Centre’s Daniel Fields and Kareem El-Assal have authored this latest report. They have said that going by the existing demographic trends, the annual rate of immigration must be increased by 1% of the total population by 2030. This means accepting 415, 000 immigrants annually, they added. It will assist Canada to support economic and labor market growth in the long term adds the report.
The Federal Government of Canada had revealed a fresh multi-year plan for immigrants’ intake in November 2017. As per this, the immigration rate of Canada will reach 340,000 immigrants for all immigration programs by 2020. It is an increase of 0.95 annually. For 2018, the intake of immigrants is set at 310,000 which is a rate of 0.84%.
The latest report by Conference Board of Canada is in line with repeated calls given by the economists, business leaders and national and provincial governments of Canada. All of them have demanded to increase the immigration rate of Canada to cope up with the scarcity of workers due to the aging Canadian population.
