Canada is emerging as AI leader due to immigration policies

Canada is now emerging as the global AI – Artificial Intelligence leader owing to its immigration policies and diversity. This view has been expressed by top 2 leaders in the AI sector in Canada.

Initially, it appeared to Irvine that Silicon Valley was the right place for building integrate.ai. However, he concluded after his research that Toronto was the right destination, as quoted by the CIC News.

Irvine addressed the Global Forum of the Fortune Magazine this week in Toronto. Speaking at the event he said that one of the major factors that led to establishing his AI firm in Toronto was its diversity. This has been possible due to its positive immigration policies, added Irvine.

We can get great top-level tech talent in Canada said Irvine. Canada also naturally has availability of more diverse talents. These bring interesting approaches to the big issues that we deal with, said the CEO and Founder.

Canada is attracting top-end tech talent owing to its immigration policies that include its Global Talent Stream program of the Global Skills Strategy. This offers Canada Work Visas for eligible overseas workers as quickly as 14 days.

Uber’s self-driving car research program leader in Toronto Raquel Urtasun also addressed the Global Forum. She said that she moved to Canada as it was and will remain at the forefront of AI.

Urtasun is originally from Spain. She was teaching at Chicago’s Toyota Technological Institute. It was then that she decided to join the Department of Computer Science at Toronto University.

Raquel Urtasun has been dubbed by the Wired Magazine as the “AI Superstar”. She said that the immigration policies of Canada and its diversity are luring AI talent to the nation.
