Australia Skilled Occupations lists have been revised with effect from 17 January. These changes will be applicable to all the immigration intake programs for 2018. Hundreds of thousands of overseas workers choose to reside and work in Australia every year. This is owing to the job opportunities and lifestyle in the nation.
Skilled Occupation List is a list of occupations that are skilled. These cater to the high-value skills demanded by the economy of Australia. The aim of this list is to address medium to long-term skill shortages of high-value jobs and not urgent shortages for short-term.
The appropriateness of the occupations that can be included on the SOL is reviewed on a regular basis. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Home Affairs announced changes to the lists of Australia skilled occupations. The changes are aimed at supporting businesses in Australia to cater to the shortages of skills that are unavailable locally, as quoted by the SBS.
It has been assessed by immigration experts that changes to the SOL majorly affect applications in the General Skilled Immigration Independent stream. Occupations of Building Associate and Beauty Salon Manager have been removed from lists of all skilled visa programs with effect from 17 January.
The maximum gains will be for applicants under three occupations. These are Real Estate Representatives, Psychotherapist, and Property Manager. They were unavailable earlier under any of the lists. These will now be added to the visa intake programs.
Trades of Management Consultant and Horse Breeder have been moved from the Skilled Occupation List for Short-term. They have been moved to the Strategic Skills List for Medium and Long-term. It will be applicable to specific visa programs.
