As per a Media Statement, dated October 1, 2021, by the Australian Prime Minister’s Office, “Australia continues to successfully plot a path out of the COVID-19 pandemic. On both the health and economic fronts, Australia has fared better than most countries in dealing with COVID-19.”
A Media Release the same day – Next Steps to Reopen to the World – has laid down that “Australia is ready to take its next steps to safely reopen to the world, with changes coming to the international border.”
Australia will be reopening its international borders soon, following an 18-month international travel ban in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The framework for how international travel to and from Australia will look in the coming months is being laid down by the Australian government.
As per the Prime Minister’s Office, “once changes are made in November, the current overseas travel restrictions related to COVID-19 will be removed and Australians will be able to travel subject to any other travel advice and limits, as long as they are fully vaccinated and those countries’ border settings allow”.
COVID-19 vaccines recognized by Australia
Approved and registered for use in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration [TGA] - · AstraZeneca [Vaxzevria] · Moderna [Spikevax] · COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen · Pfizer [Comirnaty]
Other vaccines ‘recognized’ by the TGA [with effect from October 1, 2021] · Covishield [AstraZeneca/Serum Institute of India] · Coronavac [Sinovac] These 2 vaccines are to be considered “recognized vaccines” for determining whether international travellers coming to Australia are appropriately vaccinated. While these vaccines have not as yet been approved by the TGA for use for vaccination in Australia, the recognition of these 2 additional vaccines can be regarded as a “major milestone towards more Australians vaccinated overseas getting home sooner”.
