Apply for advance visa to avoid rush: US Embassy

Travelers who are planning a visit to the US in the summer have been asked to apply for an advance visa by the New Delhi US Embassy. It has given this recommendation owing to the huge demand in the holiday season. The waiting times for visa interview are now exceeding one month or more.

The non-peak season visa process waiting times for getting an interview appointment is different from the peak season. This is around 20 to 15 days. Applicants from India have been asked to apply for an advance visa. This is because the waiting times will exceed 30 days or even more. The US Embassy anticipates that the wait times will continue to remain the same for a couple of next months.

The workload of non-immigrant visa from Indian Mission is one of the largest globally. It processes 1 million+ visas annually. The demand for travel visas to the US has enhanced by 60% in the last 5 years, as quoted by the Times of India.

One of the Travel agents in New Delhi Anil Kalsi informed that the US visa applications have a backlog. The available dates for Delhi Embassy are for the end of May. It is really important to apply for an advance visa, added Kalsi.

The figures of Indian visitors in 2017 to the US are yet to be announced. The available statistics for January to June 2017 reveal that it was 5.5 lakh.

The US also offers the program of Visa Waiver to select nations. Nationals who are offered this program are not required to apply for a visa for tourism or business purposes visit to the US. They are permitted to stay for maximum 3 months.
