Applications for Newfoundland and Labrador Canada immigration have increased by 25% in 2018. This is in comparison with the first ten months of 2017. The statistics have been announced by the Government of the N& L province.
832 immigrants were welcomed by the easternmost Atlantic province in Canada in 2017. This was both through its federal/provincial Atlantic Immigration Pilot and Provincial Nominee Program.
There has been a 25% increase in N&L Canada immigration applications said, Al Hawkins. He is the Advanced Education, Skills and Labour Minister of the province, as quoted by the CIC News.
Hawkins said that the increase is due to the 5-year action plan for immigration launched by the province. It aims to enhance the number of fresh immigrants to N&L to 1,700 per year by 2022.
Al Hawkins hosted the 3rd Roundtable on Immigration for Ministers in this week. The focus of the meet was to ensure that immigrants must stay and develop their futures in the province.
The Roundtable was launched at the beginning of 2018. It brings together the province’s government, labor, business, community organizations, municipal governments and service providers. This is to outline a strategy for the immigration action plan of N &L. The key focus of the roundtables is to develop fresh methods to attract and maintain skilled immigrants with their families.
Addressing the legislature of the province, Hawkins said that the inputs received will inform the planning of the government. It will also identify urgent measures to retain new immigrants. This will also grow our economy and strengthen our communities, he added.
Immigration is crucial for N& L to address its decreasing working age population. This could leave the province short of roughly 35,000 workers by the year 2025.
