In Express Entry Draw #149 held on May 27, Canada has invited 385 PNP candidates to submit their applications for permanent residence. By PNP is implied Provincial Nominee Program. The term “PNP candidates” is used here to refer to those immigration candidates that had their profiles in the federal Express Entry pool and had already received a provincial nomination.

As this was a PNP-specific draw, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] cut-off was 757. A provincial nomination accounts for another 600 points to be added to the overall CRS score of the immigration candidate nominated by a province or territory under the PNP.

If the 600 added through a provincial nomination is deducted, that would leave a basic human capital score of only 157. Human capital score is the term used to refer to the score allotted based on the factors assessed at the time of CRS calculation.

A tie-break rule was applied in the latest draw on May 27. All candidates with their profiles in the Express Entry pool – submitted before April 27, 2020 at 10:19:01 UTC and with a CRS of 757 and above – received an Invitation to Apply [ITA] in this round.

Despite COVID-19 special measures in Canada, federal as well as provincial draws continue to be held. However, since the coronavirus special measures in Canada from March 18, the focus has been on immigration candidates that were more likely to already be in Canada.

Hence, the federal Express Entry draws held since March 18 have alternated between inviting candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] and the Canadian Experience Class [CEC].

With the latest draw, Canada has invited a total of 38,585 Express Entry candidates in 2020 so far.

Total 16 Express Entry draws have been held in 2020 so far.
