Alberta invites 191 Express Entry candidates in latest draw

As per the details released by Alberta, 191 Express Entry candidates have been invited through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program [AINP] in the latest draw on May 13.  A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score of 300 was required, continuing with the downward trend of the CRS-cutoff.

Express Entry candidates selected in the draw have been issued Notifications of Interest [NOIs] by the AINP to apply for being provincially nominated for Canada permanent residence.

An additional 600 points are added to the overall CRS score of an immigration candidate that secures a nomination by any of the provinces or territories that are a part of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program [PNP].

Provincial nominees are effectively guaranteed to receive an Invitation to Apply [ITA] in the subsequent draws that are held from the Express Entry pool.

Since the COVID-19 special measures introduced by Canada on March 18, the focus has been on immigration candidates that are more likely to already be in Canada as compared to those from overseas.

From March 18, program-specific draws – alternating between the PNP and the Canadian Experience Class [CEC] – have been held. The latest federal draw on May 28 invited 3,515 CEC candidates. The previous May 27 draw, on the other hand, issued ITAs to 385 PNP candidates.

In view of the ongoing coronavirus situation, the AINP, as of now, is only considering those immigration candidates for a provincial nomination that are already working and living in Alberta. Normally, a job offer is not required to be eligible to receive an NOI through the Alberta Express Entry Stream of the AINP.

Flexibility is being offered by the AINP for PNP candidates that are unable to submit complete documentation due to COVID-19 related service limitations and disruptions. The AINP is accepting copies of documents. If the candidate meets the requirements, their file is to be kept on hold for 60 calendar days.
