Democratic Party lawmakers have threatened that if the 800,000 DACA immigrants issue is not addressed immediately, they would vote against the spending bills. The funding for the US government expires this Friday. Popular as the Dreamers, these immigrants had arrived in the US as kids. Their safeguard from being deported has been revoked by President Trump, effective from March 2018.
The legislative solution for the 800,000 DACA immigrants issue must be passed before 2017 ends, said Richard Blumenthal the Democratic Senate member from Connecticut. He has vocally declared his support for the bill that intends to offer US resident status to DACA immigrants.
Ted Lieu the California Democratic Representative said that time is running out to pass the legislative fix for DACA immigrants before 2017 ends. He said that GOP leadership must immediately table the bill in the Congress for voting prior to members leave for vacation.
More than 30 members of the US Congress from the Republican Party signed a letter addressed to Speaker Paul Ryan demanding action from the Congress. This has further added momentum cutting across party lines in support of DACA legislative fix, as quoted by the VOA News.
The letter urges that the legislation for protecting Dreamers from deportation must be passed immediately. This will give them the chance for applying for a better secure legal status in the US at the earliest. It must be ensured that the legislative fix is passed before the lawmakers go on their vacation elaborated the letter.
The delay is causing real harm to the Dreamers, said, Democratic lawmakers. The future of 800,000 DACA immigrants who have studied and worked in the US remains ambiguous, they added.
