33,000 H-2B visas to be issued by the US

The temporary visa is a non immigrant visa which allows migrants to engage in non-agricultural employment which is a one-time occurrence. For example, this visa is used by entertainers, film stars, sports related immigration etc. Starting from 18th January, the visa will allow 83 nations to participate in this program.

Presently, the Department of Homeland Security, USA issues 66,000 H-2B visas. This offer is broken into two sections; one for the first half of the financial year which is from the 1st of October to the 31st of March. The second half, which is going to start soon, is from the second half of the financial year, which is from the 1st of April to the 30th of September. Any visas that are granted for the first half of the year can be used in the second half of the year. But this does not apply for visas granted in the second half, as the new financial year is in session.

Supporters of this visa say that it would assist US businesses to employ more individuals for doing this temporary job through the H-2B visa that is important for the firms for meeting the consumer demand. This temporary and seasonal job could last for ten months at one time.

The Department of Homeland Security and the US Department of Labor has predicted that modifications in a way the seasonal workers are being calculated will double the overseas workers visiting the US under this program. Recruiting of H-2B workers is not low-priced alternative. The employers are needed to pay the overseas workers and similarly the employed US workers similar wages which is more than the federal least wage.

This is good news for foreign immigrants who could work seasonally and get paid as specified national wage. For more news updates on work immigration to the US, subscribe to our newsletter at y-axis.com
