Uganda has detained 2 Egyptian Immigrants for overstaying in the country. They were also found holding forged Student IDs. The incident took place in the Gulu District in Northern Uganda. The 2 Students were arrested on March 26, 2019.

The suspects were staying in Uganda on Expired Visas. Police in the Gulu District had conducted an intelligence operation to catch hold of Immigrants with forged IDs. In the end, 2 Egyptian Immigrants were found guilty and taken into custody. Their Visas had expired in January 2019. The forged Student IDs belonged to the Cavendish University in Gulu.

Mr. Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Police Spokesperson has revealed the identities of the 2 Egyptian Immigrants. Ahmed Abdel Razek is a 23-year-old Egyptian who had been staying in Uganda on an Expired Visa. The other arrested Immigrant is 27-year-old Abdel Rahman Sultan.

Mr. Okema further stated that they had received intelligence information well in advance. They’d planned the arrest accordingly. However, the suspects ran away as soon as they saw the police. The locals helped the Police in catching hold of the Immigrants, as quoted by Daily Monitor.

The Police checked their rooms in order to find evidence. It was then that they found the forged Student IDs. Also, from the documents, it was clear that they were overstaying in Uganda. The students were immediately detained by the Gulu Police. They had charges of illegal stay and forgery on them.

Mr. Okema said that the Police are still trying to find out the reason of their illegal stay. Knowing the motive is of the utmost importance, he added. Because it is a severe security threat. They were staying in good places in the city. However, they had no clear source of income. This should be a matter of grave concern for the country.

The Gulu Police also found some suspicious objects in the Immigrants’ room. The Uganda Bomb Squad has been informed to take care of the inspection.
