1600 immigrants have benefited from Canada Tech pilot program in just 75 days. This is a program launched by Canada to ease the hiring of overseas skilled workers for tech jobs.
Canada Tech pilot program was launched by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in June 2017. It is aimed at facilitating Canadian firms to quickly hire talents needed for their business expansion.
Global Skills Strategy program decreases the work permit waiting time for an overseas worker. The decision is taken within 2 weeks instead of 2 months, as quoted by the CBC CA. It also makes it smoother for the immediate family members of the tech worker to immigrate to Canada.
The Minister of Science, Innovation, and Economic development Navdeep Bains said that the private sector in Canada has given a very positive feedback. They are very much excited by the ease and pace of hiring required skilled tech workers, he added.
More than 2,000 immigrants have already applied for the Canada Tech pilot program. This means with 1600 applications being processed, 80% of them are already fast-tracked.
A former Twitter employee Petra Axolotl moved from Singapore to Canada through this program. However, she first did not choose Canada. Axolotl said that she first wanted to move to the US. But meanwhile, Trump was elected as US President. Thus I moved to Canada through the Tech pilot program, she added. Her application was approved within 10 days. The process was very easy, added the data scientist. She has already received the Canada PR status.
In 2016, 8, 785 overseas tech workers migrated to Canada. By August 2017, already 6,940 have moved to the nation. This is 80% of the last year’s total.
