Kansas Ian Grillot, the 24-year-old US national who was injured while trying to save an Indian has been honored by Houston’s Indian-American community as a ‘Real American Hero’. The Indian-American community has also raised 100,000 US dollars to assist him to buy a house. Ian Grillot was injured when he attempted to save Srinivas Kuchibhotla in a gunfire opened by a US national who targeted Indians at Kansas’ Olathe’s bar. He was honored at the 14th annual gala of Houston’s India House as ‘Real American Hero’, quotes New Indian Express. In the shooting incident, Srinivas was killed and his friend Alok Madasani was seriously injured. The Facebook page of the India House said that the selfless act of Ian was worth being recognized. The Indian-American community honors this selfless act which was beyond the call of duty and the gratitude towards this act would be expressed by helping Ian to purchase a house. 100,000 US dollars has been raised by India House which was a part of the initiative to assist Ian to purchase a home in his hometown supported by Dr. Anupam Ray, the Consul General of India in Houston. Navtej Sarna, India's Ambassador to the US handed over the cheque of 100,000 US dollars to Ian. Ian Grillot said that he could not just stop himself from intervening and trying to save the victim from the shooter as that would have been totally disastrous. He has a very strong message now and he has no reason to stop himself from spreading the message of love and hope and empowering people. Ian also added that it was a matter of honor to be facilitated by India House that assists innumerable families from diverse communities in Houston. Built by Indian-Americans in the Greater Houston area, India House is a community center. A prominent Houstonian and Chair of the annual gala Jiten Agarwal said that we cannot come across a genuine hero who dares to face a bullet for a stranger and risks his life to save another’s life on a daily basis. We are reminded of the greatness of America and its promise by Ian Grillot, added Agarwal.
