1 million new immigrants will be welcomed by Canada through 2020

1 million new immigrants will be welcomed by Canada between 2018 and 2020. This was revealed by the Immigration Minister of Canada Ahmed Hussen. He also termed this as the most ambitious levels of immigration in the history of Canada.

The new multiyear Immigration Levels Plan outlines the ambitious target of the government. It was tabled in the House of Commons on 1 November, as quoted by the CIC News. Majority of 1 million new immigrants who will be offered the Canada PR will be economic immigrants. Most of these will be through the Express entry selection system in Canada.

Targets for immigration intakes for all economic categories will increase every year till 2020. This will be specifically true for Express entry intake of immigrants to Canada.

Earlier, annual plans for immigration intakes were rolled out by the government. The move to a multiyear plan deviates from the past norms. This has been done by the IRCC after consultations with the government of Canadian provinces and business fraternity. It has been done to permit stakeholders to plan the use of resources and appropriate service levels.

Addressing a press conference in Toronto Ahmed Hussen said that the remarkable multiyear plan will benefit all Canadians. This is because the immigrants will enhance the innovation and economic growth of Canada. It will assist to keep Canada at the top of the global economy, said the Minister.

As per the new plan, in 2018 Canada will accept 310,000 new permanent residents. For 2019, the immigration target will be increased to 330,000. In 2020 340,000 fresh Canada PR holders will be accepted, revealed the plan.

Out of all the new immigrants, almost 565, 000 will be accepted through the economic categories. Around 1 quarter million will be accepted through one of the federal economic program administered through Express entry.
