The EU Blue Card is a work and residence permit that authorizes highly qualified non-EU nationals to reside and work in their choice of EU member state country. The U.S. Green card is a PR card that offers permanent residency to individuals, allowing them to remain indefinitely in the country. The EU Blue card can be seen as the European alternative to the Green card in the U.S. The European Commission named the card “Blue” to symbolize the American “Green” card. While the EU Blue card may draw similarities to the U.S. Green card, there is a major difference between the two types of permits.
