Mr. Philip Min, Consul General of US in Chennai, said that India now stands second, behind only to China, as the country of origin for most foreign students studying in the US currently and India is outpacing China’s growth in this area. This makes it official that India stands second only to China as the country of origin for most foreign students in the US. But the gap between the two Asian giants is closing.
Mr. Man informed the press that the number of students from India who are pursuing education in US universities has increased by 30 percent. This brings in the number to about 1,33,000 students from India. Education USA, a US Department of State organization with more than 400 international student advising centers, has been assisting foreign students from India in deciding the best universities and study programs, providing tips on writing admission exams for the universities and preparing the students for the visa interviews. Last year, around 1,20,000 students and their parents had approached around 71 centres of Education USA for applying to the US universities.
He also told that the organization’s job is to promote legal US student immigration. They add that the students’ aim is to be granted an F-1 Student Visa and to make sure that they have entry permission to the airport, further which the US Homeland Security has to offer access to other parts of the nation.
According to Maya Sundararajan, senior advisor at Education USA, says that those students who had registered as members could use the services like applying to educational institutions, preparing for exams like ACT, SAT, webinars, getting Letter of Recommendations, writing SOPs, online counseling etc.
