Cancellation Fees and Overstay Fines: UK Visas

Cancellation Fees - If applicant decides to cancel or withdraw their visa application any time, it will only be possible if the visa is still in the processing stage. The refund amount will depend on which stage the visa application is in.

Visa application fee - The visa application fee will be refunded if the applicant still needs to provide their photographs and fingerprints. The UK visa application fees will not be refunded, if the applicant has already submitted the biometrics. Further, if the applicant wants to withdraw the application before the deadline for uploading your evidence, then the UK tourist visa fees or another visa fee will be refunded.

Health Surcharge fee - If the applicant cancel the visa application before the final decision is made, the total amount of the submitted health surcharge fee will be refunded to the applicant. The health surcharge fee for UK visa applications varies depending on the visa types.

Priority Service Fee (If applicable) - If the applicant has paid for priority visa service or premium services, then they need to apply for a refund. This fee is usually returned to the applicant after submitting a request.

Overstay Fines - The UK has a strict clause for overstay. According to the current law, overstaying more than 14 days is considered if the applicant starts applying for a new visa or extension or has a good reason for delay. However, individuals must submit proof that causes the delay. The Home Office in the UK will make the final decision of your visa.

Penalties for overstaying - The applicant who violates the law in the UK and overstays after the visa expires will be banned from entering the country again for 5 years. Also it can invite fines and imprisonment for up to 4 years.

What if your UK Visa is rejected?

If an applicant’s UK visa has been rejected, it will be notified of the same in writing, with the reason for the refusal also mentioned.

A visa can be refused based on the points-based system, which is the UK's immigration management system. Applicants whose visas have been rejected under this system can appeal for an administrative review only.

The visa rejection letter will specify if the applicant is allowed to appeal the decision. If the letter does not mention an appeal can be filed, then the applicant has to file a fresh visa application.

Can I apply again for an UK visa after refusal?

If your UK visa application is denied, you will receive a letter from the Home Office describing the reasons for your visa rejection and whether you can appeal or request an Administrative Review. If you wish to appeal the immigration decision, you must do so within the required time. Typically, you will have 14 days to appeal a UK visa refusal if you are inside the UK and 28 days outside the UK.
