The short-term UK student visa allows its holders to stay for a period of six to 11 months based on certain factors. Importantly, it cannot be extended once it lapses and students are not allowed to work or undertake any business deals. It does not allow students to be accompanied by family members.
The actual purpose of the visa is to let students enroll for a short course at a British institution, such as English language courses or summer school study courses. In the UK, many summer schools offer fast-track study courses with some linking to degree study which can be pursued later.
Students above ages of 18 and pursuing an English language course are allowed to stay in Britain for 11 months. In the case of other courses, stay is restricted to just six months.
People who want this visa need to apply for it online. They would need to get their fingerprints scanned and photographs taken at a visa application centre. Visa fees depend on the duration of the course. While a six-month visa costs £89, an 11-month visa is priced at £170.
In order to be eligible for the visa, proof should be produced that one has been admitted to a course, has enough funds to support themselves and can pay for their return journey.
It is suggested that aspirants apply as early as possible because processing time of these visas varies as per the country one applies from.
