Top universities in the US in 2021
According to the QS World University Rankings, these are the top universities in the U.S for 2021:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, has been the top university in the US and around the world for nine years. In four of the six ranking criteria: academic credibility, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, and foreign faculty, MIT has perfect scores. It also ranks close to 100% in citations for research and foreign students.
In three classifications, academic reputation, employer reputation, and faculty-to-student ratio, Stanford receives perfect scores, making it the world's second best university.
Stanford continues to be a "billionaire factory," as its graduates are some of the world's most successful individuals.
In academic and employer integrity, Harvard achieves perfect scores. Harvard is the oldest higher-education institution in the United States (established in 1636).
Nevertheless, when it comes to its foreign student population, Harvard continues to fall behind the competition. In fact, just 15 percent of its total population of students are foreign students.
One of the best colleges on the West Coast is the California Institute of Technology (or Caltech). It also happens to be the smallest university in the U.S top ten. Caltech hits nearly 100% on the student-to-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, and international faculty metrics, climbing one place in this year's university rankings.
One of the best non-Ivy League universities is the University of Chicago. In academic credibility, it scores particularly high. Today, with a male to female ratio of 56:44, the University of Chicago welcomes more than 16,000 students, both graduates and undergraduates. A quarter of all learners come from abroad.
At the national and international stage, Princeton continues to rank strong. The research performance of the university is some of the best in the world, winning a perfect 100 in its citations per faculty ranking. Its faculty comprises 27 Nobel Prize winners and it gives out 1,576 awards for research funding.
Located in the city of Philadelphia, the university is unique for its diversity among the institutions of the Ivy League. The visible minorities are 51 percent of students and women are 55 percent of all students.
The university has one of the highest numbers of graduates who continue to become Fortune 500 CEOs.
Yale is one of the world's most successful universities, achieving almost perfect scores in student-to-faculty ratio, academic reputation, and reputation as an employer. Yale is currently ranked 13th for graduate employability in the world.
With 24 percent of its student body being foreign students, Cornell University scores well in academic reputation, research, and international faculty. Although Cornell has a greater student-to-faculty ratio than other institutions in the Ivy League, it is one of the best universities in the United States because of its broad range of programs.
Columbia University is the Ivy League University in New York City. For its ratio of student-to-faculty members, Columbia scores an optimal 100 with QS. This may be a consequence of the exclusivity of Columbia, with an acceptance rate of just 5.8 percent for undergraduates.
