Thailand, one of the preferred holiday destinations globally that was visited by over a million tourists from India last year, will introduce this November a six month, multiple entry tourist visa. While Consul General of Thailand Somsak Triamjangarun announced the new visa category being launched, Consul Chantana Seelsorn explained that those travelling on the visa, on every entry, can stay for two months. Unlike the 15-day validity visa issued on arrival, the applications for the multiple entry need to be made to the Consulate or the visa application centres.

Within 2-3 days, the visa, priced at Rs.10,000 each, will be issued.

Mr.Triamjangarun and Ms. Seelsorn said this while addressing members of the Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) here on Tuesday. According to the Consul, Thailand received 12 lakh tourists from India last year.

For business persons, Thailand offered a one year, multiple entry visas with each stay of up to 90 days.

Encouraging those doing business with Thailand to seek clarification on issues, if any, the Consul General said the country’s economy, which grew by 2.9 per cent in the first half of the year, was expected to grow with the government announcing various projects. One of them was the setting of second phase of special economic zones near the border areas, something that would be of interest to trade and industry in India, he added.

FTAPCCI vice-president Gowra Srinivas urged the Consulate officials to promote Telangana and Andhra Pradesh among investors in Thailand.

Land, power and manpower were available in both the States and cost of production was lower, he added. Chairman of the Federation’s International Trade Committee Rajkumar Agrawal said inspite of political uncertainity, Thailand economy is growing.
