Attention, anxious highly-skilled proletarians of Western Civilization! New plans to attract overseas professionals to Shanghai have just been announced, with companies looking for specialized talent to offer minimum yearly salaries of 300,000RMB ($47,160 USD) and benefits. In addition, newly arrived foreign experts would also be granted preferential visa treatment and priority status for permanent residency permits, according to local officials.
Professionals working in fields like finance and engineering, which fit under the category of experts that "help boost China's economic development", will be the most sought after.
The Shanghai Daily reports:
The local plan announced yesterday creates 72 senior position vacancies with nine big state-funded companies based in Shanghai. All are leading firms in their industries. The future recruiters are Shanghai Xian Dai Architectural Design Group, Shanghai Electronic Group, Shanghai Automotive Industry Group, Jin Jiang International Holdings Co Ltd, Shanghai Huayi Group, Shanghai World Expo Co Ltd, Shanghai Pharmaceutical Holdings Co Ltd, Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute and Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences Co Ltd. The positions mostly require senior engineering, technical and business management backgrounds, according to the released catalog.
The plan is part of Shanghai's stated intention of turning the city into an eventual world financial hub, a feat which Hong Kong looks to have already achieved, according to a recent ranking by the World Economic Forum.
