American Immigrants Census Bureau data has revealed that 42.4 million immigrants lived in the US in 2014. Immigrants here include both legal and illegal. This is said to be the highest number of immigrants who lived in this North American nation ever. This number constituted 13.3 percent of the American population in that year. According to Center for Immigration Studies, 18.7 million immigrants (illegal as well as legal) entered and settled in the US between 2000 and 2014. The Great Recession, which began at the end of 2007, followed by its weak recovery, did not deter 7.9 million new immigrants from settling in the land of opportunities starting from the beginning of 2008 to the middle of 2014. Between 2010 and 2014, the number of new immigrants, including their newborns, grew by 8.3 million, which was equal to 87 percent of the total population growth of the US. The source countries for immigrants between 2010 and 2014 with the highest rate of increases were Saudi Arabia, followed by Bangladesh, Iraq, Egypt and India, Pakistan and Ethiopia (all sending in the same number). During the same period of 2010 to 2014, states that saw the largest percentage increases in immigrant numbers were North Dakota, an increase of 45 percent, Wyoming, an increase of 42 percent, Montana, an increase of 19 percent, Kentucky, an increase of 15 percent, New Hampshire, an increase of 14 percent and Minnesota and West Virginia, an increase of 13 percent each.
