Passport & Visa processes to be eased for Overseas Indians

Passports and Visa processes for Overseas Indians will be eased said Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. It will also include their OCI, PIO, and Social Security Cards. The government is working towards offering E-Passports that are chip-based, added the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister of India was speaking at the inaugural of 2019’s PBD - Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. It is the annual conclave for overseas Indians. He said that the endeavour of the Government was that the Diaspora stays safely and happily wherever in the world.

Mr. Modi elaborated that the Government is making efforts to ease the entire processes. This includes the Visas, Passports, Overseas Citizen of India, Persons of Indian Origin, and social security cards.

A new initiative has been taken some months ago regarding overseas Indians, said the Prime Minister. Our Consulates and Embassies are being connected globally to the Passport Seva Project he added.

This will put in place a centralized system that is connected to the Passport service for all overseas Indians he said. Work is also on to go a step further and offer E-Passport based on the chip, said Mr. Modi. The rules pertaining to Visa processes are also being simplified, he added as quoted by the Business Standard.

With the E-Visa it is convenient to obtain Visas that also saves time said the Prime Minister. Problems are also getting reduced, he added. We are also converting Person of Indian Origin cards into Overseas Citizen of India cards, he informed.

The Prime Minister of India also urged overseas Indians to contribute towards building a new India. The changes that are coming in India are transforming into new opportunities, he said.

We are also making efforts to unite NRI mentors and Indian start-ups on one platform said, Mr. Modi. Another important sector for overseas Indians can be Defence manufacturing, he added.

More than 2 lakh overseas Indians trapped in crisis conditions have been assisted by the government and its efforts said, Narendra Modi. This was in the past 4.5 years, he informed.
