New Zealand may shift its focus to the Global Impact Visa from the Entrepreneur Work Visas. Immigration is refusing 93% of the applications for the Entrepreneur Work Visas. The standards have been set too high for the applicants of this visa.

The Cabinet paper released in 2017 said that the current Entrepreneur visa was functioning well. But it was not designed to attract highly innovative global entrepreneurs. These are required to support the innovation system growth in New Zealand, it added.

The Global Impact Visa was launched in 2017. It is aimed at attracting innovative overseas entrepreneurs, as quoted by the Stuff CO NZ.

Simon Laurent the Principal of Laurent Law said that the focus of Immigration may now shift to the Global Impact Visa. The percentage of rejection of Entrepreneur Work Visas has risen steeply this year. The fresh stringent measures could be aimed at discouraging immigrants from applying for the visa, added Laurent. The stringent approach for Entrepreneur visa applications can be a transition in the policy, said Lauren.

Ryan Ji Director of New Zealand Association for Investment and Immigration said that the policy for Entrepreneur Work Visas was extreme. It has become increasingly impossible to obtain this visa, he added Ryan.

On the other hand, the staff of Immigration New Zealand said that the high rate of refusals for Entrepreneur visas was owing to poor quality. This was in an industry seminar held in the month of February.

INZ has said that it intends to retain the Entrepreneur work visas and raise the quality of applications by working with advisors. Immigration Minister of New Zealand Iain Lees-Galloway said that he is aware of the issues with regards to the policy for Entrepreneur visas.
