SINGAPORE, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Education New Zealand (ENZ) on Friday welcomed survey findings that showed international students from Asia and the Middle East believe New Zealand is the most accessible study destination supported by welcoming government policies.
The latest Buyer Behaviour research survey from global education agency IDP revealed overseas students thought New Zealand has the most welcoming government student visa policies ahead of Canada, Australia, the United States and United Kingdom.
In December 2013, the New Zealand government made changes to the work rights of international students to make it easier for them to work while studying.
Unlimited work rights have been given to foreign PhD and research Masters students, and more international students became eligible to work full-time during their holidays.
The survey of 1,000 students from Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, China, India, Bangladesh and Middle East also found that international students believe New Zealand is number one in terms of affordability and safety alongside Canada.
"We were the first country in the world to introduce a Code of Pastoral Care for International Students, which institutions must sign up to in order to enrol international students," said Ziena Jalil, ENZ South and South East Asia regional director.
"The Code provides numerous safeguards for students to ensure they receive a high quality education and experience in New Zealand," said Ziena.
