Malaysia is on a multi-pronged campaign to re-establish itself as a significant traveler destination in Asia when the 2014-2015 lean income period caused by the unfortunate 2 Malaysian Airlines mishaps, is thinking of permitting Indian nationals to use for visas on-line. Malaysia plans to increase e-tourist visa facility to travellers from India because it hopes to draw in ten lakh tourists this year as against 7,22,141, who visited the country last year.
Indian Community Relations Advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia said, “We are eyeing 10 lakh Indian tourists this year,". He added that the Malaysian business sector contributes twelve percent to Malaysia's gross domestic product and the South-East Asian country has invariably been a very important export market. Additionally, Mr.Singh is a member of the business Malaysia Board of Directors, who said that the country is working on an e-tourist visa for China and therefore the facility is also offered to China.
Asked if visa on arrival facility may also get on the cards for Indians, he said, “We can look at all these subjects. We get a lot of suggestions from local (travel) agents. Slowly, we will take up these issues". As of now, the Indian Government permits Malaysians to use e-visa. However, Malaysia is to reciprocate.
The bulk of Indian tourists to Malaysia come back from Mumbai and New Delhi, adding that there has been a big increase within the variety of young couples visiting the country. As a part of its efforts to boost awareness on 'Malaysia as a destination of choice', Tourism Malaysia has began a 'Sales Mission' to India and land between February 25th and March 3rd.
Mr. Singh and Mr. Musa Yusuf, another senior worker from Tourism Malaysia is leading a delegation of officers of Malaysia Tourism Board as a part of the Mission, which can travel to many Indian cities, including Lucknow, Kochi, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru.
