Indian business travellers are among the top spenders, second to Singaporeans, in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a survey by hospitality major Accor.
Indian travellers have one of the highest hotel budgets in Asia-Pacific, spending an average of $399 a trip, the Accor Asia-Pacific Business Traveler Survey 2012 said.
Only the Singaporeans spend more, averaging $468 a trip, it added.
The survey interviewed over 2,500 respondents from nine countries in Asia-Pacific region, who made business trips in the first half of the year.
“In terms of nightly spend on accommodation, Indians rank third at $133, up from $128 last year, while Australians and Singaporeans took the top spots, at $173 and $156, respectively,” the survey said.
Compared to fellow travellers in the region, Indian business travellers are most likely to be entrepreneurs, with 17 per cent of respondents saying they have their own business.
Indian travellers were also the most likely ones to take business trips to visit customers, with 58 per cent citing it as a reason for travel, it added.
However, when it came to women business travellers, India had the lowest rate, constituting a paltry 6 per cent of the total travellers.
The Asia-Pacific regional average of women travellers was 26 per cent, with Thailand at the top spot where women constituted 40 per cent of the travellers, the survey said.
The survey also noted that business travellers from India were the most likely in the region to book directly on the hotel’s Web site for making reservations and were also most likely to post their hotel experiences on social media.
Business travellers currently residing in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam were the target of the study.
