How many times can you apply for a Working Holiday visa in Australia?

You can apply for a Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417 visa) up to three times. You cannot combine three years in one Working Holiday visa but apply for three separate Working Holiday visa for 12 months each. A Working Holiday visa is a temporary visa for young nationals aged 18-30 or 18-35 years old that allows them to work, study, travel in Australia for 12 months.  However, Indians cannot apply for a Subclass 417 Working Holiday visa. Instead, they can apply for a Subclass 462 visa.

First Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417 visa)

A Subclass 417 visa allows young nationals from eligible countries to travel, work, and study in Australia for up to 1 year.
 

Requirements to apply for First Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417 visa)

To be applicable for the First Working Holiday visa, an applicant must:
 

  • Reside outside Australia while applying for the visa
  • Genuine visitor
  • Age must be between 18-30 or 18-35 year (depends on different countries)
  • Visa holders of eligible countries
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Basic language proficiency in English
  • Letter of support if you are not an applicant from Israel, the United States and China
  • Not visited Australia on any Working Holiday visa (be it Subclass 417 or 462 visa)
  • Not to accompany any dependent child while living in Australia
  • Sufficient proof of funds
     

Second Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417 visa)

For the Second Working Holiday visa, an applicant must meet the specific requirements of three months of specified work in the Northern Area (417 visas) or Regional Area with the first Working Holiday visa. The working period in Australia must be three calendar months, at least 88 calendar days, including weekends or equivalent resting days as a full-time employee.
 

Requirements to apply for Second Working Holiday visa

To apply for a Second 417 visa, an applicant must:

  • Must abide by all the conditions of the first Working Holiday visa
  • Must not be a holder of more than one previous Work and Holiday visa
  • Fulfill the age criteria (18-30 years)
  • Worked in specified work in regional Australia for three months
     

Third Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417 visa)

For the Third Subclass 417 visa, an applicant must complete a specified work for six months, equivalent to six shortest calendar months of the year, with a minimum period of 179 calendar days. The six-month specified work requirement must be aligned with shifts or days as a full-time employee in the specified job role. Applicants don’t need to work for one employee for six months. Instead, they can work for different employers and complete the six-month specific work requirement.
 

Requirements to apply for third Working Holiday visa

To apply for a Subclass 417 visa, an applicant must:

  • Previous holder of first and second Subclass 417 visa
  • Fulfill the age requirement
  • Have completed 6 months of specific work on second 417 visa from July 1, 2019
