Updated March 18 2025

The Express Entry points for a Canada visa can be calculated using the CRS points calculator. CRS, or the Comprehensive Ranking System, is a points-based system that evaluates an applicant’s profile based on several factors and ranks it in the Express Entry pool. To be eligible for a Canada visa, an applicant must score at least 67 points out of 100. The Express Entry points will be calculated based on factors such as age, language proficiency, work experience, education, arranged employment, etc. Candidates with high CRS scores have a better chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

What is the CRS score based on?

The CRS score is based on a combination of factors, including your age, educational qualification, language proficiency, whether you have a spouse or common-law partner (their qualification), work experience, and additional factors like a job offer, provincial or territorial nomination, etc.

The table has the list of factors along with the maximum points allotted for each:

Breakdown of CRS Score Components

How can you improve your CRS score?

Some of the ways to boost your CRS score to improve your chances of receiving an ITA (Invitation to Apply) through the Express Entry Draws are as follows:

Language Proficiency

You can improve your language proficiency scores through language tests like IELTS. A maximum of 136 points can be scored if you secure a CLB of 9 and an additional of 74 points if you take up a French language test.

Educational Qualification

International students with a degree or diploma in Canada can score up to 30 extra points.

Relevant Work Experience

A maximum of 180 points can be added to your Canada CRS score if you have work experience less than 3 years but you continue to work.

Canadian Employment Offer

A maximum score of 200 points can be secured if you receive an employment contract from a Canadian employer or a sponsor recognized by the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

Contribution of Spouse/Common-law Partner

The spouse's contribution can add up to 40 points to your CRS score. The language proficiency of your spouse will add 20 points, while the educational level and experience will add 10 points each.

Through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

Candidates will receive an additional 600 points if they receive a nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program of a Canadian province.
