A student’s experiences and guide to studying abroad

Morgan Frantz was a student studying global communication at the Kent State University in the US. As part of CCI Explore’s Study Abroad Program, he was preparing to move to Florence, Italy. However, he felt anxious as he felt he did not have enough information regarding the process. This was when he decided to pen down his experiences while he was studying abroad.

Morgan reached out to Stephanie Smith about writing a blog post regarding his experiences. Stephanie was an associate professor with the College of Communication and Information. From there on, the idea of writing a book with study abroad tips and guides, his own experiences, student and faculty interviews began to form. Thus he wrote the book “L’avventura Italia: The CCI Minimalist Guide to Florence (and Beyond)”.  It was a 100-page book which he began writing while in Italy and finished after coming back to the US.

Morgan’s book contains tips on travelling. It lists out the best places to eat while you travel. It also guides you on the best ways to travel and how to pack for trips. He also included his own experiences abroad so that fellow students found it relatable.

Speaking to KentWired.com, Morgan said he has included many of his own personal experiences in his book. He has written about how he was stranded at the Bulgarian airport for 8 hours. He has also written about his surfing experience on the west coast of Italy. He has also emphasized on the culture shock that students face when on study abroad programs.

Stephanie Smith says that there is no comprehensive guide available to students who want to study abroad. She believes Morgan’s book would fulfil that as it spoke about study abroad programs from a student’s point of view.

Stephanie also said that CCI planned to use Morgan’s book for recruitment. It will also be used for marketing the study abroad programs.

Morgan hopes that fellow students find his book relatable and would be able to use it as a resource when planning to study abroad.
