Germany has been named the best country in the world for the sixth consecutive year, revealed an index evaluating the value of 195 nationalities.
Conducted by Henley & Partners, the Kochenov Quality of Nationality Index (QNI), takes into consideration various factors, which include the country's economic growth, its human development levels and the kind of travel freedom and the other advantages its citizens enjoy in a globalised world.
The score of Germany on the QNI was 82.7 percent. Trailing behind were Denmark and France, which were ranked second jointly at 82.4 percent.Germany, which was referred to as the sick man of Europe only a decade ago, cemented its position as Europe’s ‘engine of growth’ following
Angela Merkel ascension to power as the country’s chancellor in 2005.Fast-growing GDP and strong economy of Germany along with its high score on the UN's HDI (Human Development Index) — where income per capita, life expectancy, and education — played a major role in this country achieving the top QNI score.
In August, the IMF (International Monetary Fund) made a mention of Germany's vibrant economy and predicted a healthy economic growth.International Business Times quotes the IMF's latest report as saying that Germany’s employment growth was robust, output growth is superior, its unemployment rate was at the lowest ever and the fiscal position continues to firm up.
Dr Dimitry Kochenov, QNI creator, a constitutional law professor at the University of Groningen in Holland, said that it has particularly high travel freedom scores with both visa-on-arrival and visa-free access to around 176 countries. The UK scored eleventh-best on the index and is most likely to lose its ranking further after it exits the EU. Kochenov said that a hard Brexit would hurt the UK, damaging the quality of its nationality. He added that EU citizenship was a highly valuable resource and doing away with it is an issue which cannot be taken lightly. The lowest ranked country was Afghanistan of the 195 countries in the index, scoring only 14.6 percent on the index, owing to its depressed travel and settlement freedom and fragile economic clout and lack of peace and stability. Barring Germany and France, the top spots in the six places were bagged by Nordic countries.
