The number of Foreign Tourist Arrivals in India for the month of June 2016 was close to 5.50 lakh, with a registered growth of 7.3% compared to 5.12 lakh arrivals last year for the same period. Foreign Tourist Arrivals for the duration between January to June 2016 grew by 8.9%, with 41.86 lakh FTAs from the previous rate of 3.7% and 38.45 lakh FTAs for the same duration last year.
Of the recorded FTAs, the USA ranked the highest with a share of 22.20% of the total arrivals, closely followed by FTAs to India from the next top four source countries – Bangladesh with 20.69%, the UK with 6.84%, and Malaysia with 3.90% and Sri Lanka with 3.20%. Airport-wise figures for FTAs puts New Delhi airport at the top slot with a 24.69% share in FTAs followed by Mumbai airport with 16.76%, Haridaspur land check post with 11.99%, Chennai airport with 10.90% and Bengaluru airport contributing to 7.74% of the total share in FTAs.
Rs 10,732 was collected in fee from FTAs for the month of June 2016 crore, registering a growth of 12.2% compared to the fees collected in June 2015. Fees collected from FTA for the period from January to June 2016 grew by 14.1%, with a revenue of Rs 73,065 crore compared to 8.3% and revenue of Rs 64,035 crore for the same term in 2015.
