December 22, 2014 – The Government of Canada has announced that the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) will reopen on January 2, 2015. The PGP assists family reunification by accepting a limited number of applications to sponsor parents and grandparents for permanent residency.
A total of 5,000 applications will be accepted starting January 2, 2015. Applications must be complete, and will not be accepted prior to January 2, 2015. Given the popularity of the program it is expected that, as in previous years, the total cap for applications will be reached shortly after the program opens.
Parents and grandparents not selected for the PGP may wish to consider applying for the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa. Parents and grandparents holding a Super Visa may stay with family in Canada for up to two years without the need to renew their status.
