Yes, foreign nationals can move to New Zealand with their family. Several visas allow them to join family in New Zealand. Depending on the family visa, foreign nationals can visit, work, study for some time, or even obtain residence and stay permanently in New Zealand. The New Zealand family visa allows foreign nationals to join their family members in the country and be a part of the country.

 

Pathways to bring family members to New Zealand

There are a total of 16 types of New Zealand family reunification visas:

 

  • Child of a New Zealander Visitor Visa: This visa enables children dependent on a New Zealand visa holder to visit them.
  • Parent Resident Visa: The Parent Resident Visa allows parents to reside in New Zealand indefinitely if their child holds New Zealand citizenship or residency.
  • Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa: This visa is available to those with a New Zealand partner or a country resident. There are two types of visa that they can choose from any one of the visa depending on the New Zealand holder's visa status:
  1. The Partner of a New Zealand visitor visa
  2. The Partner of a New Zealand Resident visa
  • Dependent Child Resident Visa: The Dependent Child Resident Visa allows a New Zealand resident or citizen to bring their children to reside, work, and study with them in the country.
  • Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa: The Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa is for those whose Partner holds a New Zealand work visa, allowing them to visit and live together in the country.
  • Dependent Child Student Visa: The Dependent Child Student Visas allow children to enroll in primary or secondary schools in New Zealand.
  • Child of a Student Visitor Visa: This visa is for those who want their children to visit them in the country.
  • Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa: The Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa allows children or grandchildren to visit the New Zealand visa holder in the country.
  • Marriage Visitor Visa: This Marriage Visitor Visa is for partners who are either married or want to get married in New Zealand. They are eligible to apply for a three-month visitor visa to reside with them.
  • Partner of a Student Work Visa: If the Partner is eligible to pursue an eligibility level of 7 or 8 qualifications or any level of qualification, they can work in the country with the Partner of a Student Work visa.
  • Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa: This Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa is for partners who are in a relationship with New Zealand citizens or residents. They can visit them and stay with them in the country.
  • Partner of a Worker Work Visa: This Visa enables a New Zealand visa holder's spouse or de facto to work in the country.
  • Refugee Family Support Resident Visa: This Visa is for refugees or protectors who can sponsor a family member for residency.
  • Inter-country Adoption Resident Visa: This visa is for applicants who want to bring their legally adopted child to New Zealand.

  • Valid passport
  • Complete application form
  • Birth Certificate
  • Partner support form
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Medical form
  • For dependent children, permission from another parent
  • Parent visa: Marriage certificate
  • Visa fee receipt\
