  • Parent or Grandparents
  • Child or Other Dependant
  • Orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild

Eligibility to sponsor

A person with a Canada PR must meet specific eligibility requirements that include:

 

  • Being a Canadian permanent resident or a citizen.
  • Be an adult at 18 years old.
  • Living in Canada or planning to return if your spouse becomes a permanent resident.
  • Must have the ability and be willing to provide for the basic financial needs of three years for the family members.

 

Who is not eligible to sponsor?

 An individual with a Canada PR will not be eligible to sponsor in the current scenarios.

 

  • If the sponsor is currently in prison.
  • If the sponsor has not paid alimony or child support payments.
  • If the sponsor is declared bankrupt and has not yet been released,
  • If the sponsor has received social assistance for several reasons.
  • If the sponsor has failed to pay back an immigration loan, has made late payments, or missed their payments.
  • If the sponsor had already sponsored another extended family and has failed to meet the terms of the sponsorship agreement
  • If the sponsor has been convicted of a violent crime or any offense
