Azerbaijan Immigration Azerbaijan has made it easier for foreign workers to work in their country as they have decided to do away with special permission, which they needed earlier. The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has revised the rules for staying temporarily and migration of foreign workers without citizenship. Henceforth, the Cabinet has fixed the group of people eligible to bring foreign workers without the need for a special permission. Azer News quotes the presidential decree of the country straddling Asia and Europe as instituting the rule that foreign nationals are allowed to work in Azerbaijan for up to three months without the need of a special permission as long as they are invited by state organisations or companies having state involvement as coaches, consultants and so on. In other words, the group of people includes local physical and legal individuals falling under the relevant rule, who may involve overseas specialists in a range of fields to work and to provide services. The revision is also applicable to organisations completely established by foreign nationals or having a minimum of one foreign founder who can bring a superior or deputies from overseas. According to the news daily, Azerbaijan, as of today, has joined many international conventions, elevated its country’s legislation to international standards and established a sturdy legal framework in the area of labor migration. The last year had seen around 20,000 foreign workers registering in Azerbaijan as against 30,000 only until August in 2016. Azerbaijan is being positioned as an attractive place to work in for foreigners owing to its economic progresses and the government’s policy to generate new jobs and its objective to improve the quality of life. Foreign nationals wanting to work in the former Soviet republic can apply on the Azerbaijani State Migration Service’s website to get an authorisation for work or for extending the duration of their employment there.
