Updated November 08 2024

The Department of Home Affairs of the Australian government has released details of the SkillSelect invitation rounds held on May 25 and June 11, 2020.

Total 850 SkillSelect invitations were issued in May-June 2020. While 200 invitations were issued on June 11, the May 25 invitation round involved 650 invitations being sent.

A skilled worker or business person from abroad interested in Australia immigration will be required to go through the SkillSelect which is needed for completing their Expression of Interest [EOI] profile online.

Do keep in mind that there is no fee involved for the creation or submission of an EOI in SkillSelect. An EOI is not a visa application.

A skills assessment – by the relevant assessing authority in Australia – might be required for certain programs.

An EOI, once successfully created, will remain in SkillSelect and will be valid for the next 2 years.

Under the SkillSelect, invitations are issued on a monthly basis. Generally, the SkillSelect invitation rounds are held from –

Skilled Independent visa [subclass 189]
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – family-sponsored

The total number of invitations issued in any SkillSelect round will vary as per the volume of applications than under processing with the Department of Home Affairs.

In view of the COVID-19 situation, “targeted invitation rounds occurred in May and June 2020”.

SkillSelect round of invitation – June 11, 2020

Draw date: June 11, 2020
Total invited: 170 + 30 = 200
Subclass 189 170 [Minimum points score: 85]
Subclass 491 30 [Minimum points score: 70]

*In a SkillSelect invitation round, it is the highest-ranked profiles as per their points score that are issued invitations to apply for the relevant visa.

The order of invitation of EOI profiles with equal points is based on the time of reaching their points score for that particular subclass. This is referred to as the “date of effect”.

EOIs with earlier dates of effect get precedence over those with later dates.

Pro-rata occupations in the June 11 invitation round

Keeping in view the high demand, specific occupations are subject to the pro-rata arrangement which also ensures that invitations can be issued throughout the year.

By a “pro-rata” arrangement is meant that if the occupation is similar, the SkillSelect will first make the allocation for subclass 189. Places remaining will then be made over to subclass 491.

If all the available spaces ate taken up by subclass 189, no invitations will be issued under subclass 491 for the same occupation.
