Record numbers of 20 Indo-Americans are contesting the US Congress elections being held this year. They have collectively raised 15.5 + million USD so far as revealed by the fresh official figures. Seven of them have raised more than 1 million dollars individually.
The US Congress elections are scheduled to be held in November 2018, as quoted by the Times of India. The funds of 15.5 + million $ collected by the Indo-Americans so far is a record by itself for any ethnicity groups in the US. Conventionally, a large amount of funds is collected by the candidates in the last 2 quarters.
The US Federal Election Commission has revealed the latest figures for fundraising activity for the US Congress elections. The highest funds have been raised by Illinois Congress member Raja Krishnamoorthi with 3.5 million +USD. He is seeking re-election from the 8th Congressional district in Illinois.
Entrepreneur and Indo-American scientist Shiv Ayyadurai is contesting the elections as an independent contestant from the Massachusetts US Senate seat. 3 other Indo-American Congress members Pramila Jayapal, Dr. Ami Bera and Ro Khanna have individually collected 1 million $ + for the elections.
Jayapal, Bera, Khanna, and Krishnamoorthi are the 4 Indo-Americans in the existing US House of Representatives. They are together known as the Samosa Caucus. Khanna is seeking re-election from the 17th Congressional District of California. He has collected around 2 million USD by 31 March 2018. This has been revealed by the US National Election Commission.
Ami Bera has raised 1.7 million $ and he is seeking his 4th successive term in the US Congress. Pramila Jayapal has collected 1.3 million $. She is the first ever Indo-American to be elected to the US House of Representatives.
