Zurich University of Applied Sciences, or ZHAW, is a university of applied sciences that has its main campus in Winterthur in the canton of Zurich.
Tracing its roots back to 1874, when it was known as Technikum Winterthur, the largest engineering school in Switzerland. It became a full-fledged university in 2007
The university, which also has campuses in Zurich and Wädenswil, consists of eight departments in architecture and civil engineering, applied psychology, engineering and management, health, linguistics, life sciences and facility management, and social work.
In each school, there are several institutes and departments where varied ranges of degree programs are offered at undergraduate as well as graduate levels.
It is ranked 1401 globally as per the QS World University Rankings 2024.
ZHAW has entered into partnerships with many educational institutions globally, among which are the Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary, the University of Helsinki in Finland, and the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia.
It offers 50 bachelor’s, 18 master’s, and 16 PhD programs. It is home to 14,000 students, of whom more than 200 are foreign nationals.
At the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, the tuition fees per semester are €747 per semester, and the cost of living amounts to around €2,075 per month.
The renowned alumni of ZHAW include Peter Voser, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, and Karin Keller-Sutter, the head of the Swiss Federal Department of Finance.
The Zurich University of Applied Science School of Management and Law, also referred to as ZHAW SML, one of the largest business schools in Switzerland, obtained the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation in 2015.
