Though hiring activity was low-key in the beginning of July, it has picked up in the third week in the UAE across various sectors.
Businesses in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman have resumed the process of hiring workers, beginning from drivers to accountants and sales executives to office assistants and project managers.
Getthat. com, a classifieds site for Gulf News, has posted more 2,200 jobs in its latest vacancy listings on 20 July, as employers are seeking to fill various positions at clinics, hotels, factories, beauty salons and retail stores, among other businesses.
According to Gulf News, most companies that are recruiting are the construction and engineering industry, where there about more than 400 available jobs. Following it is recruitment and consultancy firms, with 200 vacancies, while companies in hospitality, the food and beverage and hotel sectors have more than 150 roles to fill.
Generally, the wholesale and retail trade businesses are performing well, especially in the travel and tourism and construction sectors. This happened because of many organisations, especially in the wholesale and retail trade, profiting due to the increased consumer spending during Ramadan holidays. On the other hand, the construction sector jobs picked up owing to new projects.
Other sectors where opportunities exist are manufacturing industry, where 125 jobs have been advertised for on getthat. com, while there 100 vacancies exist in the retail sector.
In addition, hiring is ongoing at businesses in the sectors of information and technology, automotive, real estate, healthcare, oil and gas industries, utilities and advertising.
Manpower consultants were expecting recruitment activity to pick up this year after a slump in the last few years, which was partly contributed by weakening oil prices.
In April, Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster. com, Asia Pacific and the Middle East, said that the consumer goods industry and logistics, procurement and supply chain sectors are still performing quite well in the Emirates.
