Chinese Xi Jinping's arrival in India on September 17, 2014, is making headlines across India. The visit will address varied agenda from investment, to infrastructure, railways, trans-border transport corridors, and even industrial parks. The staple visa issue will also be at the forefront of discussions.
India is of a stand that the staple visa to residents of Arunachal Pradesh should be stopped, for it to ease the visa norms for Chinese visitors to India.
The visa agreement between the two countries is ready since the former prime minister Manmohan Singh's visit to China last year, but it is likely to be signed during Jinping's upcoming visit. However, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said that, "When China’s foreign minister was here (in June), he was told, ‘If we believe in one China policy, you should also believe in one India policy.’
Will Jinping's India visit boost the ties between the two nations, put a full-stop to staple visa for residents of Arunachal, and bring 'Hindi - Chini Bhai Bhai' slogan back to life is important to see.
