Newly released data from the ACS (Census Bureau's American Community Survey) shows that approximately 1.6 million new immigrants arrived in the United States in the 2015, according to the CIS (Center for Immigration Studies) analysis.
Immigrants here takes into account are both who entered legally as well as illegally. They also include permanent residents (green card hold holders), guest workers and foreign students.
Steven Camarota, Director of Research, CIS, commenting on this data, said that immigration numbers, which fell because of the Great Recession, have picked up steam again. According to him, the rise in new arrivals was due to the guest workers being imported on the prompting of the business community.
The 2014 immigration numbers represent a 17 percent increase when compared to the numbers of 2013 and a 38 percent increase when compared to 2011 numbers. The total American immigration population between 2013 and 2015 increased twice as fast when compared to the four years prior to it. The overall immigration population stands at 43.3 million, which accounts for 13.5 percent of the total US population.
Immigrant population, on the whole, falls when the number of foreign-born people leaving the US every year is taken into account with this group’s approximate mortality of around 300,000 per year. The upshot is that the new arrivals surpassed the growth in the overall immigrant population.
The largest source areas of immigrants of America since 2010 were East Asia, followed by South Asia. The Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East were the third, fourth and fifth largest source areas of new arrivals, respectively. On the other hand, the number of immigrants coming in from Europe declined by 31,000.
The largest number of immigrants entering America from 2010 came from India, followed by China, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic and so on.
