US received about 1.6 million immigrants last year, says study

Newly released data from the ACS (Census Bureau's American Community Survey) shows that approximately 1.6 million new immigrants arrived in the United States in the 2015, according to the CIS (Center for Immigration Studies) analysis. The overall immigration population stands at 43.3 million, which accounts for 13.5 percent of the total US population. Immigrant population, on the whole, falls when the number of foreign-born people leaving the US every year is taken into account with this group’s approximate mortality of around 300,000 per year. The Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East were the third, fourth and fifth largest source areas of new arrivals, respectively.
