US immigration for Indians will be eased through GEP – Global Entry Program. In the coming days, Indians traveling to the US will have eased immigration process. This has been revealed by Bharath Kumar Kuthati the Bengaluru RPO Regional Passport Officer.
A current Indian passport holder can enroll for Global Entry Program. They have to submit an application for this which will be scrutinized by diverse agencies. After this, approval is obtained from each of them, as quoted by the Deccan Herald.
Upon successful completion of the process, US immigration will be eased for Indians said Bharath Kumar Kuthati the Bengaluru RPO Regional Passport Officer.
The development was followed by the signing of an MOU Memorandum of Understanding between the US and India. GEP permits hassle-free arrival of nationals of select nations only. India has been recently added to the list, informed the Regional Passport Officer.
The decision to include India in the Global Entry Program was taken of late during the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US. GEP was launched by the US in July 2017. It is, however, progressing at a slow speed as it mandates approval from diverse agencies added Bharath Kumar Kuthati.
Indians traveling to the US used to face a cumbersome immigration process till now. On the other hand, Global Entry Program will ensure that the US immigration process is eased for them, said the RPO.
Bengaluru Regional Passport Office is also working on the rate of issuance of passports along with the GEP. This is being done by increasing the numbers of POPSOKs - Post Office Passport Seva Kendras.
The first POPSOK was opened on 2017 January and 12 such centers have become functional after that. Appointment facility based on SMS is available at all the PSKs. It is not required to carry a hard copy of the receipt for an appointment.
