The H1B Visa process has been a cause of worry for many employers in the US who are looking to hire skilled foreign workers. The Trump-led Govt. has been slowly and quietly tightening the visa regulations, especially the H1B Visa. This has caused a surge in the number of rejections leaving employers in the US facing a critical talent shortfall.
The shortage of skilled workers in the US has led business leaders to call for visa reforms. Business Executives have called on US policymakers to streamline the H1B Visa process. Streamlining the H1B process will help the US attract more skilled international workers. Business Executives have asked to increase the visa allotment frequency, prioritize the in-demand applicants and speed up the approval process.

The group also recommended that US policymakers should offer temporary Work Permits to spouses of H1B Visa holders who are on track for the US Green Card. Business Executives also asked for a points-based pilot process to fast-track high skilled foreign workers towards Green Card. The group also asked for allocation of place-based Work Visas to make sure more communities get the opportunity to compete for skilled foreign talent.
A group of technology companies has sued the USCIS for $350 million over the current H1B process. The plaintiffs alleged that the USCIS earned millions in dollars by levying an H1B application fee of $4,000 on professionals seeking to extend their visa status in the US.
Howard Fluhr, Co-Chairman of the CED’s workforce subcommittee, has said that the native-born US population would just increase by 0.4% over the next four decades. Hence, it is imperative that the US looks for a feasible pathway to grow the workforce in the country.
