In an official statement posted on Gov.uk on July 14, 2020, the UK government has announced that the new Health and Care Visa is to be launched “this Summer”. The new UK visa for health professionals will ensure that the “UK health and care services have access to the best global talent”.
Providing a fast-tracked visa route for health and care professionals, the new Health and Care Visa for the UK will make it “cheaper, quicker and easier for healthcare professionals from around the world to come to the UK.”
Together with developed by the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care Matt Hancock and Home Secretary Priti Patel, the new UK Health and Care Visa demonstrate the commitment of the UK government to “deliver for the NHS and wider health and care sector”.
The Health and Care Visa is specifically designed to make it quicker and easier for the best global health professionals to work in the UK –
In the NHS |
Ineligible occupations in the social care sector |
For NHS commissioned service providers |
Health professionals can apply for this visa from August 2020.
Moreover, as per the statement, health and care staff will now be permanently exempt from the Immigration Health Surcharge.
The new UK Health and Care visa will have a comparatively reduced visa application fee as against that required to be paid by other skilled workers.
A fast-tracked route to the UK for health and care professionals, the processing time for the visa is within 3 weeks.
Those working in health and social care but not qualifying for the Health and Care Visa can claim a reimbursement from the Immigration Health Surcharge, provided they had made the payment on or after March 31, 2020.
