An overseas investor has several options for switching to a US Green Card or Permanent Residence from a US E2 visa. The investors whose nations do not have a treaty agreement for investors with the US, they can indirectly obtain the US E2 visa through the Investment Program of Grenada Citizenship. This is a viable option for overseas investors from Arabia, Russia, Lebanon, Dubai, China, and Brazil.

After obtaining the US E2 visa, the overseas investors can look forward to switching to the US Green Card or Permanent Residence. This must however not have any effects on their present nationality status according to Andy J. Semotiuk the Forbes contributor.

The majority of the overseas investors would directly apply for the US EB-5 visa, though there are also alternatives to obtain the same. Investors can divest more funds and obtain the EB-5 US Green Card, as quoted by the Workpermit.

To begin with, an overseas investor moving to the US has to invest a certain amount of funds for starting a business through the US E2 Work visa. Though there is no specified minimum amount for this, an investment of 200,000 dollars and creating 5 jobs within a period of 5 years will secure a US E2 visa for the overseas investor.

More amounts of funds imply that investors become eligible for an EB-5 Investment US Green Card while operating a business through a US E2 visa. But the US EB – 5 visas have a higher investment requirement as immigration regime in the US requires that investors divest 1 million dollars and create 10 jobs for gaining eligibility for the US Green Card.

The criterions for qualifying for a US Green Card are quite diverse from the requirements for US E2 visa. The most important is the US residency clause for an investor. In case the investor’s business requires a lot of time overseas from the US, this could delay his US Green Card or Permanent Residence application.

Immigration rules in the US mandate that a US Green card holder must reside in the nation for most of the time in the year and strengthen roots. Inability to do so puts the US green Card of the investor at threat.

On the other hand, applicants can also submit the application for a US Green Card and reside in the nation till the application is approved. Nevertheless, once a US Green Card is approved, the US E2 visa holders have to exit the US and return through the Green Card.
